Behaviourism -imitation, repetition, reinforcement
Introduction
Teaching learning of a language is a matter of practice. The language teacher can teach the language any way he likes. But the knowledge and application of certain principles help him to teach the same language effectively.
Behaviourism
Fixing up objectives of teaching in behavioural terms is the need of the hour for better class room teaching learning situations. The teaching objectives are achieved in teams of change of behaviour of learners.
Behavioural changes in the students through different skills.
1.Skill in listening -objectives in behavioural terms
2.Skill in speaking-objectives in behavioural terms
3.Skill in reading-objectives in behavioural terms
4.Skill in writing -objectives in behavioural terms
5.Comprehension -objectives in behavioural terms
6.Application -objectives in behavioural terms
Imitation
Learning of any language is based on the principle of imitation. Intact imitation is natural to man.From childhood, language is best learnt through imitation.
Repetition
Thorndike who put experimental evidences in favour of utility of repetition and exercise in the learning process. Practice makes a man perfect
Reinforcement
During teaching the teacher should try to give positive reinforcement to the students.
Conclusion
Behaviourism through imitation, repetition and reinforcement are the parts of Psycho linguistic methods which helps to teach effectively.
