SEMESTER -1

EDU. 05.2:PEDAGOGIC CONTENT KNOWLEDGE ANALYSIS :ENGLISH

SEMINAR

Topic

Objective -based instruction Bloom's Taxonomy:Specifications

INTRODUCTION

The values and aims discussed eariler are very exbaustive and general in nature and hence not realisable within a short period. In order to ultimately realise these distant goals the practising teacher will have to analyse these into more immediate and specific goals and define them operationally. By doing so, the teacher can aspire to bring about these in the caurse of instruction within a limited span of time. .............

Objective

We have already seen that the whole educational system is directed towards realisation of values and aims which lead to an all round development of pupils. An objective too is a goal towards which the learner is made to move...............

Instructional objectives All aspects of instruction are based on certain goals or objectives when a teacher plans a lesson , he should ask him self why should I teach this lesson ?The answer to this question constitute instructional objectives. ...............

Objective based instruction

An instructional objective is a specific and immediate goal attainable as a result of instruction. In that respect, instructional objectives differ from educational aims...............
ADVANTAGES OF OBJECTIVES BASED INSTRUCTION
1.It gives direction to the teachers and helps them to take wise decisions. .................

Bloom's Taxonomy

By Benjamin S Bloom
1.Cognitive domain(knowing)
2.Affective domain (feeling)
3.Psychomotor (willing or doing)

Cognitive domain

Knowledge,comprehension,application, analysis, synthesis, evaluation

Affective Domain

Receiving, responding , valuing, organising ,characterizing

Psychomotor Domain

Imitation, manipulation , precision, articulation, naturalistion

Specifications

Specification means observable and measurable behaviour that can be cited as evidence for the realisation of an objective. It is also called specific objective..............

Revised taxonomy of cognitive domain

By Krathwohl and Anderson in 2001..............

Conclusion

Objective based instruction gives direction to the teachers and helps them to take wise decisions. ............

1.THE TEMPEST

2.CAESAR AND CLEOPATRA

1.THE TEMPEST -WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

Introduction

'The Tempest 'was regarded as one of Shakespeare's comedies, however, the presence of tragedy, comedy and a good deal of romance means that the play doesn't easily fit into any of these three genres exclusively. Of all of Shakespeare's plays, The Tempest is most often grouped with The Winter's tale, Cymbline, and Pericles, three other works that are also difficult to classify, because of their similar mix of comedy, drama and romance. ..........

Characterisation

Alonso :king of Naples
Sebastian :Alonso's brother
Prospero :The right Duke of Milan
Antonio :Prospero's brother, the usurping Duke of Milan
Ferdinand :son to the king of Naples
Miranda :daughter to Prospero
Gonzalo :an honest old councillor. .........

Brief summary

A ship at sea is being tossed by a furious Tempest and driven relentlessly against on island shore. The sailing master and the boatswain are on deck directing the seamen in the complicated handling of the sails , shouting through the storm. The royal passengers and other members of the court group rush anxiously on deck and exhort the crew to do their best. ..........
Meanwhile,Prospero, exiled Duke of Milan and his 15 year old daughter Miranda. ...........
Prospero puts Miranda to sleep and gives. ............
We next find the rest of the passengers wandering. ............
Miranda comes to speak with Ferdinand. ...........
Finally Prospero comes out of character to deliver an epilogue. ...........

Critical assessment

The Tempest has been widely acclaimed as on of the most imaginative, most original, and most varied of Shakespeare's romantic dramas.Coleridge has said that The Tempest addresses its self entirely to the imaginative faculty. . . . ..............

Conclusion

The Tempest is not to be seen merely as a fairy tale or a fantasy or a pastoral comedy, but that it has a subtext of realism. ..............

2.CAESAR AND CLEOPATRA -BERNARD SHAW

Introduction

George Bernard Shaw's Caesar and Cleopatra is a play about the strange relationship that existed between two famous historical characters; Julius Caesar, the ruler of Rome, and Cleopatra, the child queen of Egypt. ............

SEMINAR
Topic
Behaviourism -imitation, repetition, reinforcement
Introduction
Teaching learning of a language is a matter  of practice. The language teacher can teach the language any way he likes. But the knowledge and application of certain principles help him to teach the same language effectively.
Behaviourism
Fixing up objectives of teaching in behavioural terms is the need of the hour for better class room teaching learning situations. The teaching objectives are achieved in teams of change of behaviour of learners.

Behavioural changes in the students through different skills.
1.Skill in listening -objectives in behavioural terms
2.Skill in speaking-objectives in behavioural terms
3.Skill in reading-objectives in behavioural terms
4.Skill in writing -objectives in behavioural terms
5.Comprehension -objectives in behavioural terms
6.Application -objectives in behavioural terms
Imitation
Learning of any language is based on the principle of imitation. Intact imitation is natural to man.From childhood, language is best learnt through imitation.
Repetition
Thorndike who put experimental evidences in favour of utility of repetition and exercise in the learning process. Practice makes a man perfect
Reinforcement
During teaching the teacher should try to give positive reinforcement to the students.
Conclusion
Behaviourism through imitation, repetition and reinforcement are the parts of Psycho linguistic methods which helps to teach effectively.
